a VINTAGE 1984 LUDWIG 6.5×14″ SUPRAPHONIC SNARE DRUM, THE LAST OF THE CHICAGO LM402 SNARE DRUMS,
in GREAT, USED CONDITION!
This Ludwig snare drum features most of the Original Equipped Manufactured components. The snare side hoop and wires as well as the drumheads are aftermarket and not Ludwig. The tension rods all seem to be Ludwig.
The shell’s chrome finish is extremely clean and almost mirror-like with a scratch, nick or ding here and there but nothing extensive and nothing major. The throw-off is a P-85 but is not era correct.
The interior is pretty much factory and still sports the “Ludalloy” sticker. The internal muffler is still present but has the somewhat typical “felt migration” – see photos.
The KEYSTONE BADGE states LUDWIG DRUMS CHICAGO U.S.A. — which means that this drum was in the last production before the Chicago location was closed after Ludwig’s sale to Selmer.
The 10 Classic lugs are present and in very good condition. Another word about the lugs, this is typical of the final run of Chicago Ludwig Supraphonics as they were assembling these with whatever they had on hand.
