a PEARL 1984 CONTEMPO 8X14″ CHROME OVER WOOD MAPLE SHELL SNARE DRUM, FRANKENSNARE™

 in GREAT USED CONDITION! 

This very rare and highly desirable snare drum features a Chrome wrap finish which is in good condition with some flaws.  This snare was originally factory equipped the Pearl version of the parallel snare system which is not present. Instead this particular drum has a Pearl SR-017 throw-off, an aftermarket butt and the remaining holes slyly plugged with smooth hardware in case a new owner finds that rare parallel snare system in the future.  This drum also features 20 “bread & butter” Rogers-like lugs and the factory internal muffler as well as the two opposing vent holes.  This drum comes as shown with the Evan drums heads installed, aftermarket snare wires. 

What you should expect to see is a drum which is is in great condition for being nearly 40 years old, built with mostly original parts, some of which may have minor pitting but not much.  The SR-017 throw-off will have some pitting and some rust but functions smoothly as it should.  The factory chrome wrap is still intact and looks very good but does have some wrinkling at the lap joint as well as a few other places such as the vent hole grommets.  Most of the tension rods are factory but two or three may not be.  The batter side hoop is a heavier gauge Ludwig part but the snare side hoop is the factory Pearl.

I would call this an excellent “player” drum which lacks nothing in sound and reliability and looks incredibly well-kept for its age.  Everything that has been done to the drum has been done with the idea in mind that the rest of the factory parts might one day be found and this drum could be easily put back to factory appearance and specs. 

With this in mind, this drum is being sold as is and can be used right out of the box.  It is a prime candidate for that “marshmallow” sound and feel.  Think AC/DC, Def Leppard and that big “booshy” snare drum sound – this drum can do it and more!
